Texas immunization rules for students

College and university students

Students entering higher-education institutions must show meningococcal vaccination or a booster within five years before enrollment, administered at least 10 days before the semester. Exemptions and exceptions apply. (source)

Health-science and clinical students

Before direct patient contact, health-care students must document Tdap and recent tetanus vaccination, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and two varicella doses. Provisional students may not participate in contact activities until requirements are documented. (source)

K–12 school entry (including high-school CNA and dual-enrollment students)

Texas K–12 requirements include DTaP/Td/Tdap, polio, MMR, hepatitis B, varicella, meningococcal vaccine, and hepatitis A. Requirements vary by grade, including booster intervals and MCV4 requirements in grades 7–12. (source)

Many programs accept a quantitative titer as proof of immunity when vaccine records are missing or incomplete. If your program requires a specific test, such as a quantitative Hep B surface antibody or a QuantiFERON TB blood test, order that exact test.

Texas's immunization registry is ImmTrac2, the Texas Immunization Registry. Request records from a healthcare provider or local health department. For ImmTrac2 records, complete the authorization form and submit it to DSHS by mail or fax. Adults 18 or older must also sign the Adult Consent Form.
